Astronomical Polarization
Polarization measurement for astronomical sources and remote sensing applications for looking back at the Earth were the first applications developed using PEMs. The inventor and early champion of the PEM, Professor Jim Kemp, used the device to characterize the polarization states of astronomical sources.
We have worked with astronomers to adapt PEMs for specialized environments, such as the extreme environments of remote telescope sites or space. In many of these cases researchers have built polarization measurement systems from these PEMs, incorporating them into complex optical systems such as telescopes and satellites.
In addition, we have designed complete polarization measurement systems for other astronomers.
