Polarization Extinction Ratio
The polarization extinction ratio (PER) of a polarizing element is the power drop, in decibels, between the light transmitted when two polarizers are aligned (maximum signal) around the sample being measured and when the two polarizers are crossed around the sample (minimal transmission). The PER is calculated as the log of the ratio of the two values.
